Daddy, Please Come Back

.

This artist describes the details of parental divorce for the character in this creative artwork.  A few details of the background story for this character: “When Rikuto was 10, his father divorced and left and he didn’t know why.  Without his dad around,  he felt helpless. He would cry himself to sleep in his room at night, asking himself why would his father leave if he loved both him and his mother so dearly? The week after, his dad filed a divorce and picked up passports, packed his bags and left to move to the U.S. with his band. Without even saying goodbye while Rikuto slept peacefully in his room.”

Sadly, emotions experienced during the divorce linger as indicated with this scenario.  Understandably, there are feelings of  abandonment for the parent who offered protection.  Divorce is difficult for everyone.

Irony

Many children of divorce experience feelings of sadness and a profound sense of loss in reaction to their parents’ separation. This adolescent seems lost and forlorn.  Perhaps the person who took this picture can relate.  Artist describes this as “My parents are divorced which is why I took this.”

Self-Image

A child has the DNA of both parents. When one parent criticizes their co-parent, the child is  likely to interpret this as a put-down about them. When both parents are guilty of this behavior, it can create a great confusion along with a sense of unworthiness and low self-esteem. “Something’s wrong with me” becomes the child’s unconscious belief.

Reality of Divorce

A Family, No Matter What

For some, divorce means the loss of a family. “Family” creates a sense of stability. Sometimes, divorce takes that away.  If one parent is in and out of their life this can create a sense of insecurity.  A sense of distrust forms that stays with the child.  What some want is to have family, parents who love them no matter what. A home with emotional support, no matter what.

NEW POSTS! ………………………………………… Unhappy Sunshine Family

A sad family. No one seems happy.  Even Mr. Sunshine has a sad face.  Each parent is trying to touch their child. Both parents look angry. Even the rays of sun seem to be reaching down as if to help. Rays are blocking dads hands and darting in front of mom. A sad and angry depiction of a family in divorce.

What the Child Wants

One child of divorce shares the heartache of divorce. Not surprisingly, children suffer when their parents argue. Having both parents at school events and their birthday party is important. Memorable moments should not be destroyed by parental conflict.

Divorce is between the parents-About the Child!

Love Wins!!!     Love Wins!!!     Love Wins!!!

“I would really appreciate it if the two of you could stop acting like children and come up with a plan that allows you to be in the same space at the same time without being mean to each other. For example: my birthday, sports events, recitals, concerts, and basically any time my other family, friends, coaches or teachers are around. If you could manage to put your own selfish crap aside and be civil with each other every once in a while, that would be great for everyone.”

Someone is Missing

Children need to know their parents’ love is unconditional and impenetrable, even and especially in the face of something as potentially devastating as divorce.  One parent should not be airbrushed out of the child’s life for ease and convenience or worse yet, revenge.Children need BOTH parents!

Sad Family

Angry parents and a very sad child!  This pic was found with an article titled: “Ten Things Divorcing Parents Should Avoid”.  The article shares the tremendous toll of divorce on the child’s emotional and physical well-being.  The 3-D image with the flowing tears seems to emphasize the drama of divorce!  Sad faces on both parents seems to indicate that no one is happy with divorce.  Well said!!!!

Fighting Again

Parental conflict!!!!!!  Parents fighting in front of the children is bad enough-these parents are fighting with their daughter in the middle! Daughter seems to be looking up-seeing her dads hand? Notably, dad has characteristics similar to a devil; the ears, hair style, and hands/fingers.  Facial expression is mean.  If you look closely in the middle there is the word ‘WIN”.  A subliminal message indicating the dad will win (or has won) the arguments.  Curiously, the background is somewhat peaceful with a country touch.   There is a dove at the top and a chick on the ground.

A rather telling story of divorce.
